Downtown Fountains

Head over to Saunooke Village right in the heart of Downtown Cherokee for a little shopping, some ice cream, and a whole bunch of water fun. With a variety of fountains to run and play in, you can splash and enjoy goofing off. Just remember to bring a towel.

The Cherokees worked very carefully to preserve and protect their native elk herd. If you’ve never seen these magnificent creatures, a trip to Cherokee can solve that!

Named for the Cherokee term for “Big Bear,” Mingo never disappoints. Just six miles from the Oconaluftee Visitor Center, Mingo roars like a bear, but is gentle on the eye.

Oconaluftee Islands Park

Long a favorite destination for Cherokee families, Oconaluftee Islands Park is the perfect spot for your family is invited, too. The generally shallow depth of the Oconaluftee River invites stone -skipping contests, building an ancient Cherokee fishing weir, or just wading up to your ankles to beat the heat. 


Cherokee Action Sports Park

Set on a 3.5-acre tract, the street-to-bowl transition elements are ideal for those just getting started, or riders who take their sport seriously. Located on Acquoni Road in the heart of Cherokee, NC, the Sports Park is open daily from 8 a.m. to dusk, and is free to the public.


Rope Swing

Nothing beats an old rope swing followed by a plunge in the beautiful Oconaluftee River. Grab a bunch of your friends or bring along your family, and see who can swing out the farthest, who makes the biggest splash, and who winds up with the biggest water wedgie. 


Soco Falls

Hike to Soco Falls for a breathtaking view of one of the most beautiful waterfalls in the area. 


Tubing

Nothing beats floating peacefully down a cool mountain stream on a hot summer day. Get your tube or raft at Smoky Mountain Tube and Raft, hop aboard, recline and forget your troubles.
