Monthly Cherokee Heritage Day Debuts January 14

The Museum of the Cherokee Indian will host a new program series called Cherokee Heritage Day on the second Saturday of every month, beginning in January. This event—free and open to the public—will feature hands-on activities, storytelling, dance, and cultural demonstrations, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. The first Cherokee Heritage Day will take place on Saturday, January 14.

Experience Lights & Legends: A Bright & Merry Time

This holiday season, bring your family and friends to a special event in Cherokee, NC, that will delight and inform guests of all ages. Open to the public on Fridays and Saturdays, from December 2–31, Lights & Legends takes place on the Cherokee Indian Fair Grounds, 545 Tsali Blvd. (There will be no event on December 23–24.) Hours are 5–10 p.m. each night.

Charles George, American Hero

Charles George was a Cherokee-born American hero who sacrificed his life in the Korean War to save his fellow American soldiers. This Veterans Day, November 11th, as part of a special celebration, there will be an unveiling of a bronze life-size statue of Charles George at the Veterans Memorial Park in Cherokee, NC, with a light lunch to follow in the Cherokee exhibit hall.
