The Cherokee Bonfire is Back!

Gather around a crackling fire in Cherokee, NC, and hear stories from the dawn of time. The Cherokee Bonfire is back! This event series is free and open to the public.
As the evening begins to cool, the bonfire comes to life, and the stories begin. Cherokee tellers wear period dress from the 17th century, and share tales passed down through the generations.
Hear mesmerizing stories of creation, myths, and legends—and maybe even a ghost story or two! Every night is different, and there’s a rotating cast of tellers who share stories and their distinct talents with the crowd, as dusk settles on the boundary.
Feel free to ask the storytellers questions and soak up their wisdom. Some tellers are well-versed in Cherokee history and share stories about the people and the land that makes Cherokee what it is today. Others share outdoor survival skills, and demonstrate different tools and techniques used by the Cherokees, and how they use the natural world around them to support their way of life. Some tellers even use music and dance to tell their stories, and share the cultural significance of their performances.
All are welcome to attend. There are benches positioned around the bonfire, and you can enjoy the sights and sounds of the Oconaluftee River in the background.
