5 Ways to Celebrate Mother’s Day in Cherokee

1. Mother’s Day 5K

Looking for something active to do this Mother’s Day? The Mother’s Day 5K on Saturday, May 9th at 12 pm is family-friendly event with proceeds from the race going to the Cherokee Dialysis Support Group. Register on site the day of the event or online. It’s only $10 for adults and $5 for children 12 and under.  

2. Waterfall Hike

Pack a picnic and take Mom for a stunning hike at one of the area’s waterfall. Mingo Falls is on the Cherokee Indian Reservation and, at 120 feet tall, is considered one of the most spectacular in the region. Nearby Soco Falls is a beautiful double-waterfall with an observation deck that is an easy five-minute walk from the trail, providing a wonderful background for a family photo op.

3. Qualla Arts and Crafts

Get Mom a piece of art or jewelry to commemorate Mother’s Day at Qualla Arts and Crafts, the oldest Native American Cooperative in the nation. Over 250 artists showcase their handcrafted wares including traditional baskets, pottery, wood and stone carvings, beadwork and more. You can even find amazing beaded, hand-dyed porcupine earrings by local artist Sally A. Shehan—an amazing gift for under $20!

4.  Spa

Book Mom a relaxing Balinese Massage or Body Scrub at the Mandara Spa at Harrah’s Cherokee.
