“People of the Clay: Contemporary Cherokee Potters” Opens at The Museum of the Cherokee Indian
Date: 4.22.2019The Museum of the Cherokee Indian welcomes a new exhibit, “People of the Clay: Contemporary Cherokee Potters,” featuring more than 60 Cherokee potters and more than a hundred pieces of pottery from the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians and Cherokee Nation, from 1900 to the present. Open now until May 2020.

Date: 4.15.2019Earlier this month, the three federally recognized Cherokee tribes—The Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians, Cherokee Nation, and United Keetoowah Band of Cherokee Indians—came together to celebrate their culture at the sixth annual Cherokee Voices festival at the Smithsonian National Museum of the American Indian in Washington, DC. Each tribe, while wholly unique, shares a past, language, and traditions, and is committed to preserving and promoting their history and culture to ensure they survive for future generations. Participating in the Cherokee Voices festival is a chance for the federally recognized Cherokee tribes to share the riches of Cherokee life—past and present—with the rest of the world.
