Meet Madison Hye Long, a young photographer who is making a big splash on Instagram with her gorgeous photos of Cherokee, NC.  Madison shoots what she loves—her hometown of Cherokee, NC—and she wants to share the beauty that she sees with the rest of the world.

For native lacrosse players Jerome and Miles Thompson, who are some of the biggest stars in the sport today, their mission is to help grow the game on Native American reservations. Earlier this month, the brothers held a free lacrosse camp for nearly 50 boys and girls in Cherokee, NC, along with Thompson Brothers Lacrosse co-founder Bill O’Brien. The camp was the second annual convening in Cherokee, and included children who had traveled from as far away as Oklahoma to attend.  

The much anticipated Talking Trees Children’s Trout Derby will take place August 4–5, 2017 in Cherokee, NC. Thousands of youngsters ages 3 to 11 will attend this event—free and open to the public—with their families. For many, this is their very first time practicing their angler techniques.

If you missed this year’s Annual 4th of July Powwow in Cherokee, don’t despair. There’s always next year! These rich images, filled with dynamic motion and fantastic color, will put you front and center of the celebration. Look closely and you may find you can almost hear the beat of the drum, the heartbeat of the powwow.

Now in its eighth year, the annual Cherokee Day at the Asheville Tourists Game is set for Friday, July 14, 2017. Gates open at 6 p.m., and the game starts at 7:05 p.m. Asheville’s beloved minor league baseball team will be playing the Hickory Crawdads in a home game. On this special evening that celebrates Cherokee culture, guests will have access to information about Cherokee, NC, and representatives will discuss all the amazing sights to experience.
